Why I, Shahbod Noori, Chose to Support Many Republican Candidates This Election

For years now, people across California have been repeating the same sentence:

“California is not what it used to be.”

And today, it is no longer just conservatives saying it. Even many Democrats admit that life in California has become harder, more expensive, and far more frustrating than before. From Los Angeles to San Francisco, from small business owners to working families, people are dealing with rising crime, homelessness, crushing taxes, skyrocketing living costs, and an economy that increasingly feels impossible for the middle class.

Many families are leaving the state. Businesses are relocating. Parents worry about their children’s future. And ordinary citizens often feel like politicians are no longer listening to them.

As an Iranian-American, and as the publisher of Tehran Magazine, I decided this year to pay closer attention to the election than ever before. Not because of party loyalty, and not because of political advertisements, but because I genuinely believe California is standing at a turning point.

After personally reviewing candidates, listening to debates, reading about policies, and studying where many of these individuals stand on crime, taxes, business, education, and public safety, I ultimately decided to support many Republican candidates this election cycle.

This is not because I believe one party is perfect. No political party is perfect. But I do believe California needs balance again. I believe many voters are tired of one-sided policies that have failed to improve daily life for ordinary people.

Most importantly, this article is not intended to tell anyone how to vote. Every American has the right to make their own choice. This is simply my personal opinion and my personal endorsement as a publisher, businessman, immigrant, and member of the Iranian-American community.

Steve Hilton for Governor

One of the most important choices for me was Steve Hilton.

For years, Hilton has openly discussed California’s economic struggles, the rising cost of living, the loss of businesses, the energy crisis, and the frustration of working families. Whether people agree with him or not, many Californians appreciate the fact that he speaks directly about problems many politicians avoid.

Today, people are no longer asking only “Republican or Democrat?”
They are asking:

“Who can actually make California livable again?”

For me, Steve Hilton represents a candidate willing to challenge the current direction of the state and push for major economic reform.

Tony Rodriguez for State Senate

Tony Rodriguez stood out to me because of his focus on accountability, public safety, and economic responsibility. At a time when many voters feel ignored by Sacramento politicians, Rodriguez appears to represent voters who believe government should serve working people instead of expanding bureaucracy.

Tracey Schroeder for State Assembly

Education is one of the biggest concerns for families today. As a teacher, Tracey Schroeder brings firsthand experience from inside the education system. Many parents are increasingly worried about declining educational standards, political division inside schools, and the overall future of students in California.

I believe voices with real-world classroom experience deserve more attention.

Larry Thompson for Congress

In Washington, many Americans are tired of career politicians. Larry Thompson appealed to me because he emphasizes support for small businesses, public safety, and stronger economic opportunities for working Americans.

At a time when inflation continues hurting ordinary families, economic policies matter more than ever.

Alex Villanueva for Sheriff

Perhaps one of my clearest choices was Alex Villanueva.

Over the past several years, many residents of Los Angeles have felt that public safety has declined significantly. Crime, theft, drug activity, and homelessness are no longer distant political talking points — they are part of everyday life for many Californians.

Villanueva has consistently taken a tougher stance on crime and law enforcement, which is one reason many conservatives and moderate voters continue supporting him.

Personally, I believe no city can thrive economically without public safety.

Michael E. Gates for Attorney General

The Attorney General position has enormous influence over how laws are enforced throughout California. Michael E. Gates represents a tougher legal philosophy than many current state leaders.

At a time when many citizens feel criminals are treated more gently while ordinary residents face growing insecurity, it is understandable why many voters are seeking change.

Donald Wagner for Secretary of State

Election integrity and public trust have become major issues across America. Donald Wagner has repeatedly emphasized transparency, voter confidence, and restoring trust in public institutions.

Whether one agrees with him or not, maintaining confidence in elections is essential for democracy.

David Serpa for Treasurer

As inflation and economic pressure continue affecting working families, financial leadership matters more than ever. David Serpa’s background and focus on fiscal responsibility made him one of the candidates I felt could bring stronger financial oversight.

Herb Morgan for Controller

Many voters overlook the Controller position, but it directly affects how taxpayer money is managed. In a state facing serious financial challenges, I believe stronger financial discipline and accountability are necessary.

My Choices May Not Be Your Choices — And That Is the Beauty of America

Some readers may strongly disagree with my endorsements. Others may continue believing Democratic leadership is the better path for California.

And that is completely normal.

That is democracy.

But what should no longer be normal is political silence and voter apathy.

As Iranians, many of us came from a country where people spent decades fighting for freedoms Americans often take for granted — including the right to vote freely.

Whether you are Republican, Democrat, Independent, or undecided, your voice matters.

Vote because your children’s future matters.
Vote because your business matters.
Vote because public safety matters.
Vote because California’s future matters.

A single vote may not change the world overnight, but millions of votes can absolutely change the direction of a state.

I made my choices.
Now it is your turn.

دوم ژوئن؛ روزی که کالیفرنیا می‌تواند مسیرش را عوض کند

چرا من، شهبد نوری، این بار به بسیاری از نامزدهای جمهوری‌خواه رأی دادم

سال‌هاست مردم کالیفرنیا یک جمله را بارها تکرار می‌کنند:
«دیگر اینجا مثل قبل نیست.»

این حرف را فقط محافظه‌کارها نمی‌زنند. امروز حتی بسیاری از دموکرات‌ها هم از وضعیت ایالت ناراضی هستند. از لس‌آنجلس تا سان‌فرانسیسکو، از کسب‌وکارهای کوچک تا خانواده‌هایی که سال‌ها با زحمت در این ایالت زندگی ساخته‌اند، همه با یک واقعیت تلخ روبه‌رو شده‌اند؛ هزینه‌های سرسام‌آور، مالیات‌های سنگین، جرم و ناامنی، بی‌خانمانی، و فرار روزافزون مردم و شرکت‌ها از کالیفرنیا.

در چنین شرایطی، من، شهبد نوری، به عنوان ناشر مجله تهران و یک ایرانی-آمریکایی، تصمیم گرفتم امسال بیشتر از همیشه با دقت به انتخابات نگاه کنم. نه به خاطر حزب‌بازی، نه به خاطر تبلیغات تلویزیونی، بلکه به خاطر آینده جامعه‌ای که در آن زندگی می‌کنیم.

من شخصاً معتقدم بسیاری از سیاست‌های سال‌های گذشته کالیفرنیا نتیجه مطلوبی برای طبقه متوسط، صاحبان کسب‌وکار، خانواده‌ها و حتی مهاجرانی که برای زندگی بهتر به آمریکا آمده‌اند نداشته است. به همین دلیل، بعد از مطالعه و بررسی شخصی، تصمیم گرفتم در این دوره بیشتر به نامزدهایی رأی بدهم که نگاه اقتصادی قوی‌تر، سیاست سخت‌گیرانه‌تر در برابر جرم، حمایت از پلیس، کاهش مالیات‌ها، و حمایت از کسب‌وکارها را مطرح می‌کنند.

بله، بسیاری از این افراد جمهوری‌خواه هستند.

البته این فقط نظر شخصی من است و هر خواننده‌ای باید خودش تحقیق کند و بر اساس باورهایش رأی بدهد. اما فکر کردم شاید بد نباشد با صداقت کامل بگویم چرا این انتخاب‌ها را انجام دادم.

Steve Hilton برای فرمانداری کالیفرنیا

در میان تمام نامزدها، شاید مهم‌ترین انتخاب من Steve Hilton بود.
او سال‌هاست درباره مشکلات کالیفرنیا صحبت می‌کند؛ از مالیات‌های سنگین گرفته تا فرار شرکت‌ها و نابودی تدریجی طبقه متوسط.

چیزی که برای من جالب بود این است که Hilton فقط شعار سیاسی نمی‌دهد. او بارها درباره هزینه بنزین، فشار اقتصادی روی خانواده‌ها، و سخت شدن زندگی در کالیفرنیا صحبت کرده است. خیلی از مردم امروز دیگر نمی‌پرسند «دموکرات یا جمهوری‌خواه؟» بلکه می‌پرسند:
«چه کسی می‌تواند این ایالت را دوباره قابل زندگی کند؟»

به نظر من Steve Hilton حداقل این شجاعت را دارد که درباره مشکلات واقعی مردم حرف بزند.

Tony Rodriguez برای سنای ایالت

در شرایطی که بسیاری از سیاستمداران فقط حرف می‌زنند، Tony Rodriguez بیشتر روی اقتصاد، امنیت و مسئولیت‌پذیری دولت تمرکز دارد. من احساس کردم او نماینده بخشی از مردم است که سال‌ها صدایشان در ساکرامنتو شنیده نشده است.

Tracey Schroeder برای مجلس ایالتی

یکی از موضوعاتی که برای من اهمیت داشت، آموزش و آینده نسل جوان بود. Tracey Schroeder به عنوان یک معلم، تجربه مستقیم از مشکلات سیستم آموزشی دارد. بسیاری از خانواده‌ها امروز نگران کیفیت مدارس، امنیت محیط آموزشی و آینده فرزندانشان هستند.

من فکر کردم شاید حضور افرادی که واقعاً داخل سیستم کار کرده‌اند، بتواند تغییر ایجاد کند.

Larry Thompson برای کنگره

در واشنگتن امروز، مردم از سیاستمداران حرفه‌ای خسته شده‌اند. Larry Thompson برای من بیشتر نماینده تفکر «بازگرداندن تمرکز به مردم عادی» بود. حمایت از کسب‌وکارها، امنیت مرزها و کاهش فشار اقتصادی روی مردم، از موضوعاتی بود که در انتخاب من تأثیر داشت.

Alex Villanueva برای Sheriff

شاید یکی از واضح‌ترین انتخاب‌های من Alex Villanueva بود.
در سال‌های اخیر بسیاری از مردم لس‌آنجلس احساس کرده‌اند امنیت شهر کاهش پیدا کرده است. سرقت‌ها، بی‌خانمانی، مواد مخدر و ناامنی دیگر فقط یک خبر تلویزیونی نیست؛ بخشی از زندگی روزمره مردم شده است.

Villanueva همیشه موضع سخت‌گیرانه‌تری نسبت به جرم و جنایت داشته و همین باعث شده بسیاری از محافظه‌کارها و حتی بخشی از مردم عادی هنوز از او حمایت کنند.

من شخصاً معتقدم بدون امنیت، هیچ اقتصادی رشد نمی‌کند و هیچ خانواده‌ای احساس آرامش نخواهد داشت.

Michael E. Gates برای Attorney General

دادستان کل فقط یک عنوان سیاسی نیست؛ این مقام می‌تواند روی اجرای قانون در کل ایالت تاثیر بگذارد. Michael E. Gates به عنوان یک جمهوری‌خواه، نگاه متفاوتی نسبت به بسیاری از سیاست‌های نرم در برابر جرم دارد.

در دوره‌ای که بسیاری از مردم احساس می‌کنند قانون برای مجرم‌ها آسان‌تر و برای شهروندان سخت‌تر شده، طبیعی است که بخشی از جامعه دنبال تغییر باشد.

Donald Wagner برای Secretary of State

یکی از مهم‌ترین موضوعات امروز آمریکا، اعتماد مردم به انتخابات است. Donald Wagner بارها درباره شفافیت، امنیت رأی‌گیری و اعتماد عمومی صحبت کرده است. حتی کسانی که با او موافق نیستند هم قبول دارند که اعتماد مردم به سیستم باید حفظ شود.

David Serpa برای Treasurer

وقتی مردم هر روز فشار اقتصادی بیشتری احساس می‌کنند، طبیعی است که به دنبال افرادی باشند که نگاه اقتصادی و مالی قوی‌تری داشته باشند. David Serpa بیشتر روی مدیریت مالی، اقتصاد و مسئولیت‌پذیری مالی دولت تمرکز کرده است.

Herb Morgan برای Controller

بسیاری از مردم حتی نمی‌دانند Controller چه نقشی دارد، اما این مقام می‌تواند روی نحوه خرج شدن پول مردم تاثیر مستقیم داشته باشد. در زمانی که بدهی‌ها و هزینه‌های دولت بالا رفته، من فکر کردم حضور فردی با نگاه اقتصادی محافظه‌کارانه می‌تواند مفید باشد.

Stacy Korsgaden برای Insurance Commissioner

امروز بیمه در کالیفرنیا به یکی از بحران‌های بزرگ تبدیل شده است. بسیاری از شرکت‌های بیمه در حال خروج از ایالت هستند و هزینه‌ها مدام بالاتر می‌رود. Stacy Korsgaden سال‌ها در صنعت بیمه فعالیت داشته و من احساس کردم حداقل تجربه واقعی این حوزه را دارد.

رأی من شاید با رأی شما فرق داشته باشد؛ و این زیبایی آمریکاست

شاید بعضی از خوانندگان با انتخاب‌های من مخالف باشند. شاید بعضی‌ها هنوز فکر کنند دموکرات‌ها برای کالیفرنیا بهتر هستند. و این کاملاً طبیعی است. تفاوت دیدگاه بخشی از دموکراسی است.

اما چیزی که دیگر طبیعی نیست، بی‌تفاوتی است.

ما ایرانی‌ها سال‌ها از نبود آزادی انتخاب رنج برده‌ایم. حالا که در کشوری زندگی می‌کنیم که هنوز حق رأی و حق انتخاب وجود دارد، نباید این فرصت را دست‌کم بگیریم.

اگر شما دموکرات هستید، رأی بدهید.
اگر جمهوری‌خواه هستید، رأی بدهید.
اگر مستقل هستید، باز هم رأی بدهید.

اما سکوت نکنید.

امروز آینده کالیفرنیا فقط در دست سیاستمداران نیست؛ در دست مردمی است که تصمیم می‌گیرند از خانه بیرون بیایند و رأی بدهند.

شاید یک رأی به تنهایی دنیا را عوض نکند، اما میلیون‌ها رأی می‌توانند مسیر یک ایالت را تغییر دهند.

من انتخاب خودم را انجام دادم.
حالا نوبت شماست.
